Between classes I always go to get some lunch in the market near school. One day, as I was walking towards my favorite tea stand after getting some food I passed a stand that I almost could not believe. At first I just passed by and kept walking, but then I thought about what I read (which is the first indication of something interesting, since most everything in Chinese I am still not able to fully understand… so when something is printed in English it really catches my eye). I went back and stood in the middle of the crowded street reading the sign over and over again. It was right there… “Everything Jesus [can] do I can do better.” I thought about asking the owner if he could explain to me why he wrote it, but class was starting so I just snapped the picture and headed back to class with my food and tea. The sign certainly took me back that day and I hope that it was copied from somewhere rather than an expression of the owner’s heart. As I walk through that market each day, I ponder and pray for the lives around me… The many young people that are running after every promise life has to offer; hoping someday they will know they can’t save themselves, but can fully rely on the promise of what Jesus already did for them on the cross.
