Hope Harvest January Ministry Highlights:
New Church Plant- In our last newsletter, we mentioned plans being made for a new church in Kaohsiung. We are happy to announce that the church had it’s first preview service last week and things went fine. Though there are a number of things we will be working on, we are still planning for a February 15 public launch.
Though we have helped in starting two churches in the US, this church plant is exciting because it involves a number of new Christians and mature believers who have never started a church. It will meet in the Kaohsiung Baptist Church on Sunday afternoons and will have a bilingual format.
The new church will be targeting lost or unchurched people. Only 1-3% in the city are Christian, so we have a broad group to reach out to. The number of Christians who are not connected to a local church is large as well, so the opportunities are great. Here are some things you can be praying for:
-
Creativity as we advertise the new church in the community
-
Development of the worship team
-
Those who will be preaching and translating the messages
-
Those who will be working with the children’s ministry
-
Those who come will experience God and respond in faith
Seeker Studies- God continues to open a variety of doors for ministry to the lost. Carolyn is presently leading four different studies. We are working together to do a study at a chemical company that we call “Movies With A Message.” We watch a movie and discuss what lessons can be learned. Then we teach them what the Bible says about those lessons. It has proven to be very effective and we may try to use it in other settings.
Home Fellowship- many of you who have followed our ministry have know about a group meeting in our home. Jimmy and Wendy have been charter members of the group, but we have not had a lot of growth until the last six months. Suddenly, we began to have people join the group and some have become Christians. Three of them were baptized in December at a local spa. We are praying that this group can be a model for new groups starting in the bilingual church.
