Yesterday and today, I have not had to teach. I am still working, but instead we are having halloween parties with the students. It is a lot of fun to play games and competitions with them for the two hours of class (but also a lot of planning). The students in Taiwan are in class more than in the US…but I do not know if it equates to more studying?! They all have Chinese school in the morning, usually waking up before 7am and going to school for the day. Then after, they go home or immediately after Chinese school is done, they go to English school for two hours a couple evenings a week (some also do evening math school). It is very demanding on 10-15 year olds to have so many hours of class in a week. That is why the kids do not mind having a break from the books and homework to do something fun one evening of the year…next party is Christmas.
